The US intelligence department has a long history and it has evolved through years and is still evolving. Before the year 1880, the intelligence department of USA was only for the activities of the military department (McNeil) and the US intelligence department first got established as a permanent organization in 1882 as a department for Navy (McNeil). However, the real necessity of the intelligence department was felt after the World War II. The attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941 proved that the intelligence department of the USA lacks some significant aspects (McNeil).
